On April 7, Chapel Hill’s Scouts BSA Troop 39 will host its 11th annual Touch A Truck event in service to the community. The event benefits UNC Children’s and Troop 39’s scouting programs. To date, the Troop has donated more than $92,000 to UNC Children’s.
Touch A Truck has become a Chapel Hill tradition, and ranks as one of the largest non-sporting community events in town! The event features more than 40 vehicles that children (and adults) can explore in a safe and fun environment. Service vehicles, construction rigs, and even helicopters decorate the grounds of the Friday Center for this annual festival.
Entertainment, kids’ activities, food trucks, and an online auction make the event an enjoyable family outing. The event is volunteer and Scout led, and it benefits two great organizations. Troop 39 has been chartered continually since 1912, making it one of the oldest troops in the nation. It has a long history of fostering the growth and development of responsible young men in our community, and has recently expanded to include young women. In 2018, Troop 39 contributed thousands of hours of community service to the area. Troop 39 meets at the University United Methodist Church in Chapel Hill.
UNC Children’s clinical home, N.C. Children's Hospital, is a major referral center for children with complex conditions and consistently recognized by U.S. News & World Report as one of "America's Best Children’s Hospitals.” Physicians work hand-in-hand with community hospitals and pediatricians all across the state, providing specialty care to more than 70,000 children from all 100 counties in North Carolina each year.
Join the boys and girls of Scouts BSA Troop 39 for a fantastic day of family fun at Touch a Truck 2019!
