Camping is one of the best-known methods of the Scouting movement. When he founded the Scouting movement in the early 1900s, Robert Baden-Powell encouraged every Scout to learn the art of living out-of-doors. He believed a young person able to take care of himself while camping would have the confidence to meet life’s other challenges, too. Troop 39 has some of the best camping trips in the area and we go camping once a month, more than many troops around the country.

Troop 39 has two tremendous trips to England and Switzerland that happen every two years. A different High Adventure is placed between these two great trips and it changes every year. We have gone to Philmont and plan to go to Northern Tier, Florida Sea Base, and other great places in the years to come.

The backpacking trips of troop 39 are something that we are very proud of. The trips have been to places such as Mt. Mitchell (where there was a blizzard), Linville Gorge (where we crossed the same river 12 times), and so many more over the years. There have even been a contingent of scout from troop 39 that went to Philmont for several weeks.
