WHAT IS IT?

Name a child who wouldn’t love to climb aboard a fire truck, big rig or bulldozer! Touch a Truck provides a unique opportunity for children to explore vehicles of all types – public service, emergency, utility, construction, landscaping, transportation, delivery and just plain cool – all in one place! Children will be allowed to touch, climb on and ask questions about their favorite trucks in a safe, supervised environment. Accompanying personnel will teach the children about the equipment displayed and how these machines help us and our community. Crafts, activities and kid-friendly food will be available to make this a perfectly entertaining day for the entire family!

WHEN IS IT?

Sunday, April 15, 2012 – Noon to 4 p.m.

WHERE IS IT?

University Mall parking lot (outside Dillard’s), Chapel Hill, NC

WHO IS ORGANIZING IT?

Boy Scout Troop 39, chartered by University United Methodist Church in Chapel Hill, is sponsoring the event.  Troop 39’s mission is to assist young men as they become knowledgeable, thinking, and responsible citizens of their community, nation, and world. The Boy Scouts of America teaches basic skills and knowledge needed to prepare young men to be well rounded individuals with an awareness of leadership, discipline, service, and study.

WHO WILL BENEFIT FROM THE MONEY RAISED?

Through the North Carolina Children’s Hospital’s Promise Grant program and Troop 39’s programs, service projects and activities, all money raised will support children and the community. The hospital’s Promise Grant programs include camps for ill children, training for the parents of high-risk children, meals for families who have children at the hospital for extended periods of time, car seats for children with special needs, and more.

WHO CAN ATTEND?

The event, the Troop’s second annual Touch A Truck, is expected to draw close to 1,000 individuals and families from throughout the Triangle.  Over 800 attended last year. Backpack fliers will be sent home with preschool and elementary school students again this year.  In addition, road signs, radio interviews, press releases and news coverage will be used to promote the event.

HOW MUCH IS ADMISSION?

$5 per person, with a maximum of $20 per family. Under 2 is free.
