Tar Heel 10 Miler road race

Dear Scouts, Parents and Leaders,

Our troop has been asked to help out as race water-stop helpers for the Tar Heel 10 Miler road race on Saturday morning, April 26. We will hand out water to runners at a stop in front of St. Thomas More Church. They have asked us to be there at 6:30 am (yes, that’s correct) and say until 10 am.

All the proceeds go to two great local causes that make a positive impact on thousands of people- the UNC Lineberger Cancer Center and the Chapel Hill-Carrboro YMCA.

NOTE: These hours count toward CHCCS service learning hours as well as troop hours for the President’s Volunteer Service Award.

EVEN BETTER NOTE: The first five people who volunteer and show up by 6:30 receive a free race t shirt. Quick Color Solutions will also provide BOJANGLES biscuits for our volunteers before the race (reserve your favorite with me when you RSVP) as well as a post-race meal at Suttons Drugstore when we’re done. You can then go home and nap that afternoon with a full belly. J

Volunteers can park at STM Church. If needed, I can give anyone a ride home who might need it. I will also

This is not a mandatory attendance event, but I guarantee you our troop will be helping out a great cause, we’ll have some fun together cheering on our favorite participating runners, and did I say “eating some irresistibly good food too?” BO TIME starts at 6:30 am. Yours will be waiting…

Email me back if you or your scout can help out. I know it’s early in the morning, but it’s a great cause.

Sincerely yours,

Glenn Benton

Troop Schedule

The Troop Schedule is provided through a Google calendar.
Did you know that you can subscribe to the troop schedule from your smartphone or device (e.g. iPhone, iPod, Android, Blackberry etc.) and within your personal scheduling program on your PC/Mac (such as Apple iCal, Microsoft Outlook, Mozilla Thunderbird or Lotus Notes etc). By doing this you can have the latest schedule right where you need it without rekeying it into your personal schedule.   To learn more, visit the Troop Schedule page.

Troop Handbook

The Troop Handbook has gone online.

Parents must subscribe to the troop’s Google Group.  This is a vital method of communication between leaders and scouts and their parents.  The details of the group and how to join are on the Contact Us page.

The Congressional Award

The troop’s goal is to be the best place for scouting in the Chapel Hill area.  To this end, the troop offers counseling for the Congressional Award.  For more details on this award see the Troop’s Congressional Award page.

Troop leaders

The troop is very pleased to have an outstanding set of dedicated uniformed leaders.   If you are interested in becoming a leader then please contact the Scoutmaster.

Looking for a form, such as a health form, Merit Badge Counselor Application (yes, you have what it takes to help the scouts of the troop develop their skills)

Web site access

There is content on this site intended only for the members of Troop 39.  In order to access that content, you must be a member of the troop and have a userid.   To gain access, please contact the Webmaster.

Merit badge counseling

For advancement in the troop, our scouts must earn merit badges and so rely on merit badge counselors to help mentor and teach them with their chosen skills.  Troop 39 has a strong set of merit badge counselors but always need more help as scouts leave the troop and new merit badges are introduced.

See Merit Badges and Counselors for the list of Merit Badges on offer and where you may apply your skills.

More details on what it takes to be a Merit badge counselor can be found on the BSA web site and we have made it very easy to contact the troop’s Merit badge coordinator.
