Included in the package:  2 nights lodging (need sleeping bags/air beds) breakfast on Saturday & Sunday mornings, a full day lift ticket (8hrs) as well as full package ski rentals including helmets (as required by BSA).  Scouts can opt for Snow boards in lieu of skis if requested in advance.

A free group lesson is also included in the price.

All attendees will need  Class B for travel as well as appropriate ski/cold weather garments for the activity, sleeping bags, personal hygiene items ( soap, washcloth, towel, toothpaste & toothbrush) Money for slope side lunch as well as vending stops coming & going  and  diner Saturday night.

Twenty-three Scouts and seven adult members of Troop 39 have earned the 2011 President’s Volunteer Service Award for services given to the community throughout the year.

Twenty six different projects were held through 2011 ranging from building a bridge on a new stretch of the Mountains to Sea Trail to the annual Touch a Truck event held at University Mall which resulted in raising over $5000 for the UNC Children’s Hospital.

The community benefited from more than 1500 hours of volunteer time given by over 50 members of the troop in 2011.

Troop 39 is one of the oldest continually chartered troops in the nation and earns the PVSA award for the first time in its history in this, its Centennial year.

Congratulations to all of the members of the troop for the cheerful service they have given to the community throughout 2011.

Battle Park Service Project

Geocaching Patrol Competition

and First Camping Trip Commemoration Supper

Saturday, October 22nd.

Schedule:

-          8:45 am: assemble at base of Forest Theatre on S. Boundary St for troop service project in Battle Park

-          Noon-1:30 pm: lunch provided for all volunteers who worked on morning service project

-          1:30 pm-4:00 pm: Patrol geocaching patrol competition across UNC campus (hint- there will be prizes)

-          4:00 pm-6:30 pm: pig and chicken picking/covered dish supper for all troop members and families, brief discussion of Battle Park significance and link with Troop 39, commemoration ceremony

-          Clean up and leave by 6:45 pm.

What to bring:

-          a pair of leather work gloves for working on trails in Battle Park

-          a shovel or steel garden rake (make sure to write your name on your tools)

-          water bottle

 What to wear:

-          Wear rough clothes for the service project.  The patrol competition will be Class B.  Class A will be needed for the pig pickin.

-          Bring a jacket or sweat shirt in case weather is cool

*From downtown Chapel Hill/Franklin St: Take Columbia St. into Campus. Turn left onto Cameron Avenue. After crossing Raleigh Road, Cameron Avenue splits into S. Boundary Street and Country Club Road; the Forest Theatre is on the land between the two roads.
