Optional early start to 9/15 troop meeting to complete small boat sailing merit badge

At next week’s troop meeting, we will be offering scouts the opportunity to compete the first aid requirements needed for small boat sailing. Those scouts wishing to complete these requirements should study them and be prepared to explain the correct first aid procedures and demonstrate the correct CPR techniques.

Scouts wishing to complete this MB should arrive at 7pm.

Troop 39 2010-2011 Schedule now available

This is so hot of the press it’s still warm!

The scouts of the troop, led by their SPL and ASPLs had a great day on Saturday planning a very exciting schedule for the 2010/2011 Scouting Year. Outings planned include indoor and outdoor rock climbing, a dump hike, skiing, shooting, leadership challenge and a trip to Busch Gardens. The Troop hopes to spend Summer Camp at Camp Daniel Boone Village up in those there mountains, yonder!

They have also planned activities for the entire year which include two Merit Badge Colleges, something new that we are trying out. Here the plan is to offer several Merit Badges in parallel over three consecutive weeks so each scout should have something that appeals to them that they can see through to completion in that time.

The calendar is published on the google calendar on the web site and can be pushed to your organisers and smartphones so there is no need to ever re-key any of this. You will also keep abreast of any updates that we make automatically, though we will of course let you know of any major changes!

One of the Troop 39 scouts is currently attending the National Jamboree and has taken the opportunity to put his writing and journalism skills to great use and in the process has been promoting Scouting and Troop 39 at the same time!

Brownsea 39 has been rescheduled

Due to there being mandatory leader training on the planned Brownsea 39 weekend, we are moving Brownsea 39 out one week.

Brownsea 39 will now run from Friday 27th through Sunday 29th August. The schedule has been updated. The location has yet to be determined.

Named after the location of the first Boy Scout camp in 1907, Brownsea 39 is the annual planning event that all 1st class and higher scouts are invited to attend.

Scouts should also remember to be checking the requirements for each of their elected Merit Badges and ensuring that they take with them to camp any extra equipment that they need, such as button up shirts, jeans for lifesaving merit badge.

May 26 Troop 39′s latest Eagle Scout recognised at the May Court of Honour

Brian Niederland, now 18, was recognised in Troop 39′s May 2010 Court of Honour. Brian, who earned his eagle earlier in the year was joined by his parents, sister and grandfather for the Eagel Court of Honour.

Many other scouts from troop 39 made progress on their journey to eagle as they were awarded many ranks and Merit Badges. See the photos of the event earlier this week and stay on for some really sweet photos!

Brian was the second member of Troop 39 to earn Eagle this scouting year.

Mar 4: Troop 39 Scouts giveback to their communty – Orange County EMS Training

Last night, ten scouts from troop 39 supported Orange County EMS in a local service project that they will all remember as one of the highlight of their years with the troop.

The scouts traveled to the Orange County EMS Communications Center in Hillsborough, NC for an important emergency services training drill. To make these drills realistic, the scouts were made up with Moulage, special make up which simulates injuries – some of it pretty nasty looking!

Earlier this year, fourteen of our scouts earned the FIrst Aid Merit Badge after attending a workshop run by Orange County EMS professionals and Troop 39 was very happy to return the favour and help train the Emergency Services with their own training.

The emergency responders were required to triage, transport and treat the injured, but apparently it didn’t work out quite as planned but valuable lessons were learned and a huge amount of fun was had!
